5. F. A. P. S. C. O (Federation of Andhra Pradesh Senior Citizens’ Organizations):
There is an increasing realization that senior citizens could be a great resource for national development, provided that their small creature comforts are taken care of and that they are given opportunities to channel their energies towards development. The “Federation of Andhra Pradesh Senior Citizens’ Organizations (F.A.P.S.C.O)” was formed in an attempt to create this platform. This novel idea was carried out in collaboration with 35 to 45 senior citizen councils. Efforts are being made to rope in such councils from other districts as well. It is advised by a Board of eminent persons. IFHD provides the logistic support for the activities of the Federation. Monthly meetings are conducted, in addition to events of state-wide importance. This association of senior citizens has the capacity to become an organization of political importance as well. Already two times, October 1st is celebrated as World Elders’ Day. The Federation has evolved a Plan of Action for the pursuit of its objectives.

6. Lok Satta:
Is a non-partisan people’s movement for governance reforms. Our mission is to promote peaceful, democratic transformation of the Indian governance process to enable India and all Indians to achieve full potential through good governance; to establish a citizen-centered, genuinely democratic governance with clear linkages between vote and well being of citizen, taxes paid and public services received and between authority and accountability of those in office. It strives for a governance system that can create the necessary conditions for a civilized democracy, viz: liberty, rule of law, basic infrastructure and economic opportunities, universal access to primary health and school education, and speedy, accessible and efficient justice to all.

Lok Satta’s goals envelop democratization of political parties, electoral reforms, genuine and balanced federalism, effective local self-governance, accountable, transparent and efficient bureaucracy and self-correcting institutional mechanisms.
Concrete activities to meet the above goals include, among others, “People’s Watch” movement for better delivery of public services; “Swarajya” movement for specific governance reforms; “Election Watch” movement for effective monitoring of election process and other state and national level campaigns on certain specific issues.
Over the past many years , Lok Satta along with other leading reform groups, civil society organizations and committed individuals has been working from a common platform and came out with tangible results. For instance, mandatory disclosure of criminal and financial antecedents of electoral candidates(2003), tightening of the anti-defection law and limiting the size of the council of ministers through the 97th constitutional amendment (2004), the landmark political funding reform law (2003), and a robust voter registration process through the post offices (2004), are a few among the many key results.

7. S.C.O.T.R.W.A (Standing Committee of Tarnaka Residents’ Welfare
Associations):

With the objective of creating urban communities of sharing and caring in the otherwise dispersed agglomeration of habitations in the concrete jungles that are cropping up in the middle of the cities, an experiment is being carried out in Tarnaka ward in Hyderabad, A.P, India. This area consisting of about 65,000 population has about 17 area or colony residents’ welfare associations and about 180 residents’ welfare associations of multi-storied apartment-buildings. They are all brought together as a Federation to manage collectively their affairs -social, economic, cultural, ecological, civic, administrative and political. Regular monthly meetings are held by the office bearers of these associations and annual meetings are held with the participation of the total population as ward-sabha. The “Tarnaka Consumer Council (TCC)” and Senior citizens’ Forum of Tarnaka are two arms of the Standing Committee. The “Balaji Residency Residents’ Welfare Association” and the “Balaji Residency Children’s Council (BRCC)” have been serving as the laboratories for our studies on social engineering. They have a neighbourhood magazine called “Tarnaka Times”.
